Makeup has many purposes and uses. Many people express how they feel through makeup, and its many colors. Makeup is used all over the world today, from actors to everyday life for many people. Makeup is the art of applying cosmetic products to the skin and other parts of the body to enhance or improve their appearance. I interviewed different people to find out their skincare methods and best makeup tips.
I asked Ana Mora, a student from Liberty High School, her perspective on makeup. When asked how she decides what makeup style makes her feel most confident, she said, “I usually think about the occasion first. If it’s something formal, I opt for natural and elegant looks. But if it’s with friends, I like to experiment with bold colors because they make me feel unique. This gives me confidence and self-assurance.” She explained her biggest challenge as “Blending eyeshadow has always been difficult for me. I solved it by practicing a lot and watching tutorials until I found techniques that suited my eye shape. These techniques helped me improve my eye makeup style.”
Speaking with an English teacher at Liberty High School, Ms. Morel, about makeup, she tells us she’s very confident in what she wears every day. She thinks makeup can influence how students express their identity. She said, “I think makeup is like art; it allows young people to express who they are without words. It can show creativity, confidence, and even mood. This has a great influence on students, who are very interested in showing how they feel. They tap into their talents through good makeup, showing their identity and who they really are.” This led us to suggest that from her perspective as a teacher, she believes that makeup can be seen as a form of self-care. Taking time to take care of yourself, whether through skincare or makeup, shows self-respect and balance.
Justine, a dedicated and professional spa worker believes that with just three everyday makeup products you can look great. She said, “I would choose mascara, tinted lip balm, and concealer. Those three are enough for me to look fresh without having to dedicate too much time to it. This significantly reduces my time before work. I show that I feel good and relaxed with these products.” I asked her about whether makeup is more about following trends or creating your own style. Justine told us that, “For me, it’s all about creating my own style. Trends come and go, but if I tailor my makeup to what I like, I feel more authentic. This helps me be myself and reflect how confident and different I am. My style will always be who I am and what I want to show. Thanks to this, my personality has improved, and I am who I really wanted to be since I was little.” This is also shown as a means of expression, similar to the sentiments of Ms. Morel.
The insights the individuals I interviewed provided brought me to the realization that they all have something in common, which is loving themselves and feeling stronger and more confident with makeup.
