A high school tradition, the Liberty High School Prom was held  on a cruise boat for seniors this  year. May 19, 2023 was an unforgettable day as we spent the night with our friends, teachers and Catholic Charities. The prom started at 7PM  and it ends at 9:30PM. We get to the boat at Chelsea Piers  at Pier 61, NYC.  It was a an amazing night for us to go around the Statue of Liberty and see the lights of the skyline of New City at night and was an incredible experience. Prom was an event that makes us proud of ourselves for being hard workers. In this celebration we had a good time by eating great food, and dancing to all different music from our cultures, a mix of African music, Dominican music, and American music) and most important of all, good company. The boat was looking very nice because some of our juniors went to decorate the boat ford the big night.

The benefit of prom is that you get to spend time with your friend and teacher, prom is once in a life experience and the students took advantage of that. Tenin Savane, a student from Liberty high school, says “It’s frequently seniors’ last chance to have fun with their friends, reflect on their high school years, and share memories before moving on to their post-high-school lives. It’s the season’s biggest social gathering, and the best chance for students to display their pride in their school and class.” Also prom is an opportunity to dress nice and dance all night.

This year the prom king was Devisson Saint Hilaire and the prom Queen was Amelia Carbajal. We also crowned those who  Ms Ana Reyes, a teacher from liberty high school, says “Every year, students eagerly await their chance to be crowned Prom King and Queen. For some, it’s an opportunity to show off their style and popularity. For others, it’s a way to let their peers know how much they care about them”

The importance of prom is to have fun and be close to each other because it will be the last celebration for seniors. Jolie Camara, a student from liberty high school, shared “It’s  one last chance to get together as a class, have fun and celebrate their  accomplishments. It may sound cheesy, but prom marks the day of getting into adulthood, indicating that the teen has passed high school and is now graduating to another stage. Prom is  a unique way to celebrate this transition.”
