When fall arrives, the Liberty High School volleyball team opens its registration for girls. When joining the team, everyone has different perspectives or expectations towards the games, but in the end, nothing is as they imagined. Each day that passes within the team, the players live with different experiences. I asked a former player, a current player, and a student at LHS, and the coach to find out more about the team.
After interviewing Yooneydi, who is a former player, she told us about her experience on the team and said, “My experience with the volleyball team was a very nice experience. It taught me many things, especially that a team always supports each other in good times and bad, and that a team is also made up of all the players, and that you have to play like you’ve never played before.” Apart from that, I also asked her what she learned within the team, and she said, “That in the worst moments we were always together, and that even if we got discouraged, we always found another way to improve.”
Another player from the team, Yuli, shared her best memory within the team and said, “The best memory was when we beat the Claremont girls, and they were crying.” She also shared an anecdote: “My best anecdote within the team was when we were training at school, and we went up and down the stairs and the coach gave us more leg exercises and we all laughed at how tired we were.”
The team coach, Mr. Cassano, shared his experience with us. “I had a great experience coaching the Liberty Girls Varsity Volleyball team this year. Our team had a lot of talented players who worked together and worked hard trying to win every game.” He also shared with us his best memory as a team leader and explained, “My best experience coaching the Liberty Girls Varsity Volleyball team this season was the first time we played and beat Claremont this season. That day the team played their best volleyball of the year, and we beat Claremont by a lot.”
Finally, I interviewed Lesly, a student, to see what she thought about the team. “I think it is a united team that comes up with several ideas and works together as a team and helps each other.” And as a last question but no less important, she was asked if she would like to be on the team and why and she replied, “Yes, because I am interested in experiencing the adrenaline that this sport has and learning to engage with more people, in addition to the fact that this sport helps you physically and mentally.”
After interviewing three different people, I realized that each brough a different perspective. Even so, they all concluded that being part of a team is a unique and very fun experience.
