On May 22, 2025, Liberty High School seniors and a few staff members took a trip to share an unforgettable experience and live the final stages of their high school years. The trip took place at Club Getaway, in Connecticut, where students and staff participated in team activities. The senior trip helped many students symbolically mark the end of one stage of their lives and the beginning of a new one.
The seniors arrived at the camp around 10 am to enjoy the day. The staff of the camp welcomed us with open arms, laughing and full of energy. The seniors were then divided into 3 groups for the activities. The activities required us to communicate and help each other if one of us was struggling.
Next, we got together at the outdoor cafeteria to eat. This was followed by a donut competition with the other schools that attended. Cristian Salcet represented our school. He almost won! We took a class of 2025 picture, and then participated in a variety of Olympics activities on the field. We formed a big circle on the field and the guide made us repeat a funny saying: “chika chaka, waka waka ” finished with “tilunnn,” as we opened our arms to the sky. We were then divided into 4 groups and competed with one another. The rain began but it didn’t stop us! After we finished, we headed through the woods and each group went to their guides.
Evening arrived and the students had one hour free to go to the cabin. We got ready for dinner and had a dance party after dinner. Next, we sat around a campfire and ate smores. We had another competition, where we had to divide into two groups, and sing different songs. The loudest group who knew the song won. That is how our night ended.
The sun rose the next morning. We met at the outdoor cafeteria to eat breakfast. It was a cold rainy morning, and everyone had a cup of tea or coffee. After breakfast, we started sharing our experiences that occurred the previous night and how memorable it was. Lastly, we walked through the woods to finish the activities. Unfortunately, one of the seniors, Abdou sprained his ankle walking downhill. Luckily, there were paramedics there to help him. At noon, we ate lunch and grabbed our bags because it was time to leave.
Binta, a student who went on the senior trip, said “It was good. I thought it was going to be boring because of the weather, but the bus ride there changed the vibes. The activities, like Olympics and climbing were a lot of fun. It was a lot of walking, but I enjoyed it.”
Two of the advocate counselors for Catholic Charities, Mr. David and Mr. G. shared, “We got closer to integrating with the students, building the community together, and getting to know the students and how they think.”
Overall, the trip was unforgettable. It was a great way to start our senior end-of-year festivities!
